Why Your Location Can Change Your Opportunities

Have you ever wondered whether your surroundings are influencing the opportunities you see?

Sometimes, it’s not that you lack ambition, ideas or ability.

Sometimes, you’re simply standing in the wrong place.

That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with where you live. But we’ve learned through our own journey that changing your location can completely change your perspective—and sometimes, your opportunities too.

A Different Place. A Different Perspective.

When we left the UK, we weren’t expecting everything to suddenly become easy.

Moving abroad comes with challenges. You’re dealing with new systems, different cultures, language barriers and plenty of uncertainty.

But something else happens when you move.

You start seeing things differently.

When we arrived in Bulgaria, we discovered a completely different pace of life. We had space to reset, experience something new and think about what we actually wanted.

Then, as we began exploring Türkiye, we noticed another shift.

The environment was different again.

Tourism, property, hospitality, international communities and growing businesses created an entirely different landscape of possibilities.

And that made us realise something:

Your location can influence the opportunities you’re exposed to.

Who You Meet Matters

One of the biggest changes we’ve experienced abroad is the people we meet.

When you change your environment, your network naturally changes with it.

You might meet someone running a business you’ve never considered.

A property owner might introduce you to an investor.

A conversation with another entrepreneur might lead to a completely different idea.

Someone you meet socially could become a business connection months later.

You simply don’t know where relationships will lead.

And that’s why we believe moving abroad isn’t just about finding a beautiful place to live.

It’s about becoming part of a different ecosystem of people, businesses and ideas.

Different Markets Create Different Possibilities

Every country has its own needs.

Its own customers.

Its own industries.

Its own gaps in the market.

Something that feels saturated in one country might be completely different somewhere else.

That’s particularly interesting to us because we’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset.

We’ve spent much of our lives building businesses, so naturally we’re always looking around and asking:

“What is missing here?”

“What do people need?”

“What could we build?”

Moving abroad doesn’t automatically give you a business opportunity.

But it can put you in front of opportunities you may never have noticed before.

Experiences Can Become Opportunities

And it’s not just business.

Living somewhere like Türkiye has also given us access to experiences that have changed the way we think.

The Mediterranean lifestyle.

Different types of accommodation.

Tourism.

Food.

Travel.

Boating.

Hospitality.

International communities.

New places to explore.

These experiences aren’t simply things to tick off a bucket list.

They can spark ideas.

They can introduce you to people.

They can reveal industries you didn’t know much about.

And sometimes, an experience can become the beginning of an entirely new opportunity.

Should You Move Abroad?

We’re not saying everyone should pack up tomorrow and move to Türkiye.

Moving abroad is a major decision and it needs planning.

You need to think about visas, finances, education, healthcare, accommodation, income and whether the country actually fits your family’s needs.

But we do think it’s worth asking yourself a different question.

Instead of:

“Where would I like to live?”

Ask:

“Where could I grow?”

Where could your children experience something different?

Where could you meet people who challenge your thinking?

Where could your skills be more valuable?

Where are businesses growing?

Where could you build relationships?

Where could your lifestyle give you access to experiences you’ve never had before?

Your Location Isn’t Your Destiny

Ultimately, changing your location doesn’t guarantee a better life.

You still have to build it.

But sometimes changing your surroundings gives you the perspective, connections and confidence to see possibilities that were invisible before.

That’s what our Fresh Start has taught us.

We didn’t move abroad because we had everything figured out.

We moved because we wanted to create the space to figure things out.

Bulgaria gave us our reset.

Türkiye has given us another perspective.

And now we’re looking at our surroundings differently—not just asking where we can live, but what we can create.

Because sometimes the biggest opportunity isn’t waiting for you to work harder.

Sometimes you need to change the place where you’re looking.
